The SOS Inc. group are passionate about finding out the truth about what is happening at Seton College and we need YOUR help to stop the decision to close Seton forever. This is a very sensitive topic, and we are taking on a huge challenge. However, all we want is the truth and real answers for our vulnerable children. Pushing them in to mainstream schools takes away their right of having a truly supported, fully inclusive education with real work experience and life skills ready to step into life beyond school.
Since 1964 Seton College has been providing vocationally driven education while empowering each student from grade 7 to 12, with the intellectual, social, spiritual and emotional skills they need to contribute to society in a meaningful way.
This unique school has provided thousands of students with a safe, inclusive education where they are taught to value their differences and focus on their strengths. Many Seton students struggled in mainstream schooling and they fell behind, were bullied or were simply overwhelmed by the constant sensory input. Seton College provides these diverse students with a tailored education that allows them to catch up and to shine.
The impending closure of Seton College by 2024, will leave an enormous gap in the schooling options available to Brisbane families. There will no longer be a contemporary Catholic, coeducational Secondary College purpose-built for personalised learning on the south side of Brisbane. Although there are other State and Independent Schools in Brisbane most of them are not able to provide the learning support or the physical and psychological support that the average Seton student needs. And for those parents who wish to give their child a Christian education the options are even fewer. Most Independent Schools have waiting lists, pre acceptance interviews and considerably higher fees than Seton.
As our population grows so too does the number of children who need extra help because of a medical, emotional, or learning problem. Seton and other similar schools have had to turn students away due to being at maximum capacity. With the closure of Seton where will these and future families go? Where will our unique, beautiful, special children go to feel safe and supported? Every child deserves the opportunity to be educated in a safe and suitable school.
